Am Beispiel der Aale
(Consider the Eel)

In black plastic tubs on board a small boat, eels writhe, strange and unapproachable, in search of a way back into the water. But they lose their strength on the cold, metallic ground. At the same time, eels circle endlessly in modern recirculation systems: Here, they grow from glass eels to adults under strict control and with a high level of technical effort. Close-meshed grids protect them from the huge pumps that filter the water. Meanwhile, scientists peer deep into their slithery entrails to find answers to unsolved questions. The film uses the uniqueness of the eels to negotiate the complex, often estranged relationship between humans and nature.
